Make the Most of Your Pumpkins!
Transporting a humble, orange pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern is a tradition around the Halloween period. Once the spooky night has passed, you may be wondering what to do with these orange fruits now that you have no one left to scare. Some of these ideas can help you get the most out of your pumpkins!
When you're carving the pumpkins, make sure to keep the pulp and seeds. Roasted pumpkin seeds make a delicious (and heart-healthy!) snack. They are full of omega-3 fatty acids, which benefit the skin, hair, and nails. This healthy fat has also been linked to improving artery, cholesterol, and brain health.
Now you've roasted the seeds, gather up the pulp from the center of the pumpkin and save it for pumpkin puree. Aside from the obvious use in pumpkin pie, the puree can be used to make pumpkin bread, muffins, dip, cookies, and butter!
You can stretch your jack-o-lanterns lifespan by turning it into a sweet bird feeder! Simply slice the pumpkin in half, then cut holes and insert twigs to give the birds a place to perch. Lastly, fill the gourd with birdseed, place it in the yard, and watch the birds come by for food!
Pumpkin can be used for several beauty treatments! If your skin is in need of exfoliation now that the cooler weather has arrived, simply mix equal parts pumpkin puree, olive oil, and enough sugar to make a thick gel. Gently rub this over your skin in the shower, rinse well, and dry as usual.
