Improve  Your Mental Wellness During Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Month, a public health and awareness campaign to highlight the importance of mental wellness. During this time, communities, healthcare professionals, business, and individuals encourage others to learn about mental health and do so themselves. Even though we can do all the right physical factors, such as getting enough exercise and fresh air, if we aren't tending to our mental health, our quality of life may suffer. This is why it's so important to be aware of how to improve mental wellbeing. Here are a few tips to get you started.   Develop a positive attitude  - It's not that easy but you can train your mind to become more positive. In turn, this can help you to lead a happier and more successful life. Focus on positive thoughts and be thankful for everything you have. Try not to dwell on the negative issues in life.   Learn self-appreciation  - Focus on your strengths and try to improve on your weaknesses. Avoid speaking negatively about yourself, but encourage yourself to set new goals often to progress. Learn to laugh at your mistakes and learn from them.   Eat well  - What we consume can directly affect our physical bodies and mental wellbeing. Aim to make healthy choices, like getting used to proper serving sizes, cutting back on sugar, meat, dairy, and processed foods. Fill your plate with vegetables, whole grains, fruit, legumes, nuts, and seeds, instead.   Get enough sleep  - If you, as an adult, aren't getting at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night, you could be doing yourself a disservice. Fatigue can lead to weight gain, illness, and poor mental health. Try to go to bed and wake at the same time every day, maintain a quiet and relaxing bedroom, and avoid large meals close to bedtime.   Have fun!  - Making time for yourself may sound like added stress, but research suggests that regularly doing something you enjoy makes you better equipped to handle stress and negativity. Cook, meditate, call a friend, read a book, take a hike€¦ Do whatever makes you happy!   Let us know how you are celebrating National Mental Health Awareness Month!
