The winter is an easy time to let go of your health-conscious and start eating to your heart's desire - but that may not be the best course of action if you want to stay healthy.
With Thanksgiving, the holidays, and New Year, we may have gotten into a bit of a bad groove: eating to our heart's desire. It is easy to gorge yourself when the holidays are in because you can simply tell yourself, "I can go on a diet when the new year starts." Of course, if you tell yourself that every year you are really only taking one step backward for every step forward. Here are a few tips on how to stay healthy throughout the winter season.
- Focus on the food, not the fun
The holidays are not about stuffing your face until you put yourself into a food coma, it is about spending time with your loved ones. Cooking together, setting up the Christmas tree, playing family games are all great things to focus on. And if you keep your rations to your caloric limit, there is no reason why you can't enjoy some of the food you helped cook.
- Indulge on only the necessary deserts
It is hard to watch everyone eat delicious apple pie while you are stuck with a glass of water and a leaf of kale. But everything in moderation never killed anyone so if you must have dessert, only partake in the special family desserts like your famous grandma's recipe.
- Don't forget your workouts
Get yourself off the winter couch, and keep up with your exercises. Exercising is a habit and so don't lose that habit as it will be much harder to start after you get used to lounging around.
