Make Your New Year's Resolutions Stick
We're just a few days into January. How are the resolutions going? Are you sticking them or are your good intentions already wearing thin? If you're struggling to stick to your new goals, here are some tips to help.
Focus on one resolution
Are you trying to save money, lose weight, cook at home more, take up running, meditate daily, and clear home clutter? If so, you could be overwhelming yourself with too many aspirations. If you try to change everything at once, you end up changing nothing. Think of the one thing that is most important for you to change and make that your only resolution.
Commit to 21 days
Common wisdom holds that it takes 21 days to form a habit. Challenge yourself to focus on your resolution for 21 days and hopefully, you will form a habit gradually. If you decide you really dislike your resolution, at least you gave it a fair chance.
Hold yourself accountable
Tell friends and family members about your resolution and ask them to hold you accountable. It's much harder to mess up when you've got to admit it to other people. Apps can also help you do this by reminding you throughout the day.
Reward yourself
Reward yourself when you make progress. It's a good way to acknowledge your efforts and inspire you to continue. Remember to reward yourself only when you've earned it, though!
