BBQ Safety 101
Summer is in full swing and everyone is getting as much use as they can out of their barbecues and swimming pools. Everyone should be enjoying the summer fun, but without following certain safety precautions these fun summer activities can turn dangerous. Here are some helpful safety tips for barbecuing and swimming that can keep your fun in the sun as enjoyable as possible.
Summer Fun Safety Tips
Propane Barbecuing Safety:
- Remember to barbecue in a well-ventilated area.
- Make sure to use the built in electric ignition, if possible.
- Only turn the propane on when you are prepared to light the grill.
- Remember to read over the safety information that comes with your propane grill.
Charcoal Barbecuing Safety:
- Make sure to use a lighter with an extension when lighting the coals, in order to keep your hand as far away from the fire as possible.
- Never spray more lighter fluid than necessary on the burning coals, as this could create an uncontrollable flame.
- Refrain from using gasoline to start any grill fires as this could lead to an uncontrollable fire.
Swimming Pool Safety:
- Never leave the swimming pool unattended. You should have someone supervising the pool deck at all times to ensure safety.
- Make sure to equip your pool with all of the necessary safety gear before inviting any guests to your house. It is always best to be prepared for a potential disaster than to be left scurrying to find life preservers once the chaos begins.
Beer Can Chicken Recipe For The BBQ
Ingredients: 1 whole chicken, 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, 3 tablespoons of your favorite dry spice rub, salt, pepper, and 1 can of beer.
How to prepare: Simply remove the innards from the chicken and rinse the chicken inside and out. Pan dry before rubbing with spices. Next drink half of the beer can so that you have a half full beer. Next, plunk the chicken onto the beer and place on the grill, but not in direct heat. You will want to cook your beer chicken with the grill cover on for a little over an hour at medium-high heat. Once cooked through, remove from the grill and wait ten minutes before serving and enjoying!
