Safety Tips for Wet Weather Driving

When the seasons change, the weather can be unpredictable. If you're traveling in Southern California during these times and happen to get caught in a rainstorm, use these tips to get where you're going safely.

  • Slow down and drive below the posted speed limit. Brakes aren't as efficient on wet roads.
  • Stay toward the middle lane. When it's raining, water pools toward the outside lanes and increases the risk of hydroplaning.
  • Increase your following distance. Also, don't follow trucks too closely. The splashing water from their tires can interfere with your vision.
  • Turn on your headlights so you can see the road and so other drivers can see you as well.

Most importantly, always have proper insurance coverage. If something happens and you don't have proper California coverage, it can leave you stuck with repair and medical bills, not to mention lawsuits, fines or other penalties.
