Indeed, packing a fifty-pound computer along with your tent and supplies was a rather difficult proposition. Nowadays, we can fit our phones in our pocket, pack our thin and lightweight laptops into our backpacks, and head into the woods with over $2,000.00 per person.
Camping burglary is an increasing problem. Here are a few ways in which you can prevent a campsite burglary.
Lock Things in Your Car - A car offers more security than a tent, which can easily be slashed open and raided in the blink of an eye. Store your items out of sight, like under the seats, glove compartment, or trunk, and let your fellow campers do the same.
Pack Smart - Before you bring your $1,800.00 laptop, ask yourself, "Do I really need this laptop in the middle of the woods?" The answer 9 times out of 10 is "Absolutely not." Leave your expensive devices at home and bring only that which is necessary.
Watch for Wild Animals - Animals could not care less about your laptop, nor your other belongings for that matter. If they smell food, they'll do just about anything to get at it. Make sure to keep your site clean at all times and never intentionally feed the animals.
These tips can certainly help reduce the chances of burglary, but it doesn't bring them down to zero. A home inventory list and the right
