The month of October is National Dental Hygiene Month, are you aware of what you need to do in order to have a healthy mouth?
Our mouths are the perfect place for bacteria to grow because of the humid and warm environment that we provide for them. Proper dental hygiene is crucial in order to eliminate the hazardous bacteria that can deteriorate our teeth and give us nasty breath. Here are four daily dental hygiene activities you should partake in this dental hygiene month and for the rest of your life to have a healthy mouth and live a long life.
- Brush - Brush your teeth at least twice a day (in the morning and at night) or after every meal. Studies show that brushing isn't the important part, it's brushing with fluoridated toothpaste is what matters. It not only prevents gingivitis and the build-up of plaque, but prevents cavities as well.
- Floss - Flossing immediately removes the food that is stuck between your teeth, which could promote more bacteria growth and cause damage to your teeth. Recent evidence, however, shows that flossing is not a necessary part of good dental hygiene. While it may not be necessary, it certainly doesn't hurt. Plus, having things stuck between your teeth can be extremely annoying.
- Rinse - The ingredients in mouthwash (normally alcohol) kill most of the bacteria in your mouth that brushing and flossing can't get to and gives you fresh breath. It can prevent gingivitis and the buildup of plaque on your teeth.
