Tips for Cleaning Your Home and Phone in the Time of COVID-19

Everything from our daily routine to our work life to our weekly grocery store trips have changed because of COVID-19. If we're not being asked to stay inside, we're being asked to sanitize everything and wash our hands often. Fortunately, there are many ways you can help yourself - and others - stay safe and healthy during this time. Here are a few ways you can clean your home and disinfect your belongings to kill germs and slow the spread of the virus.   Wash your hands - You've heard it a million times and you'll hear it many more. Why? Because it's one of the easiest ways to reduce the spread of germs. Wash your hands after you cough, sneeze, touch your face, use the restroom, or are about to eat. You should also wash your hands when you leave and return from places, such as the grocery store. If you don't have access to water and soap while you're out, carry and use hand sanitizer.   Stay at home - Even if you're not sick and you're not asked by the government to do so, stay at home if you can. Being in large crowds or going out to places unnecessarily risks not just yourself but people around you. Stay at home as much as possible. If you do need to leave the house, stay at least six feet away from other people.   Target your home's high-touch surfaces - Disinfect your home's high-touch surfaces with an antibacterial spray. Think about the doorknobs, TV remote, faucets, light switches, and countertops.   First clean, then disinfect - Clean the surfaces to remove any contaminants, dust or debris. Do this by wiping them with soapy water and a hand towel. Then, apply a surface-appropriate disinfectant, such as wipes or spray.   Remember your phone - Disinfect your iPhone or Android phone with a disinfecting wipe or alcohol solution (at least 70 percent). Pay particular attention to the screen, buttons, and anywhere that dust tends to get trapped. Remove any cases that is on your phone, clean underneath, and then put it back on when the device is dry. Do this at least once a day - more so if you are out of the house.   These simple and easy steps can help protect your home and belongings from spreading harmful germs.
