This year, our Independence Day celebrations may be different from any that we have experienced before. With thanks to COVID-19 and civil unrest, it's extra important to stay safe throughout this weekend, while protecting your property and loved ones. To help, we've rounded up a few need-to-know tips on how to stay safe this Fourth of July.
Tips for a Safe Fourth of July
- Maintain social distancing
Even if you're allowed to mingle with your loved ones this weekend, it's important to maintain social distancing. Keep at least 6 feet in between yourself and those outside of your household. If you are attending a fireworks show, be mindful to maintain social distancing.
Fireworks are known to scare wildlife and our pets. Because of this, it's best to keep your pets inside throughout the evening and night so that they don't get scared and run away. Keep the TV or radio on to drown out the sound of fireworks, and do not take them to firework events.
Whether you're going out of town for the weekend or just for an hour to see a firework show, ensure that all windows and doors are locked. Leave lights on in the house so it looks like someone is home.
Nothing beats soaking up the summer sun on July 4
th. Before you head out, make sure you protect yourself from sunburns by staying out of direct sunlight, wearing sunscreen with 15 SPF or higher, and staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
