The fun of holiday shopping can quickly sour if you face theft. To help keep your season jolly, here are a few holiday shopping safety tips worth putting into practice.
- Park Wisely: If you're going to be storing any purchases in your car while you continue to shop, make sure you choose a parking spot that in a well-lit, high-traffic area. Avoid parking behind any large vehicles. Also, store your purchases where they can't be seen by a snoopy thief. Your enclosed trunk or under the seat are your best bets.
- Protect your Identity: Don't join the millions of victims of identity theft while Christmas shopping. When you're shopping, pay with cash as much as possible. If you need to reach for plastic, choose credit - which has better fraud protection and isn't directly linked to your accounts - over debit.
- Think About Delivery: If you'll be having packages delivered to your home, try to coordinate delivery times so you can be there to receive them. If you do have to leave them exposed until you get home, ask the delivery driver to put them in a location that isn't in clear view so thieves checking front doors/porches will come up empty.
