We thought the recalls were over with this week after Toyota announced its recall of than 1 million hybrids worldwide due to a wiring defect, including about 200,000 Prius hybrids sold in the U.S. However, two million select 2015-2018 Ford F-150 Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cab vehicles in North America are being recalled because of a seatbelt problem that could result in smoke, and possibly even a fire, inside the vehicle.
Ford has determined that some front seat belt pretensioners can generate sparks when they deploy, causing a fire hazard that may ignite materials in the B-pillar, which is the post that separates a vehicle's front and rear doors. There have been 17 reports of smoke or fire in the USA and another 6 in Canada; more then enough to issue this recall. However, Ford also noted that it did not know of any accidents or injuries caused by the defect.
If you have a truck that fits this build date, contact your local dealer with the Ford reference recall number 18S27. You can also check by entering your VIN on Ford's Field Service Actions & Recalls page. Dealers will make the necessary repairs to the seat belt and B-pillar at no cost to customers.
