- Shamrocks Actually Serve a Purpose
According to Irish legend, St. Patrick picked up a shamrock and used it as a metaphor to signify the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Ghost) when he first introduced Christianity to Ireland.
- Patrick Was a Brit
The saint of this most Irish of holidays is not even from that country. He was actually born to Roman parents in either Scotland or Wales in 432.
- It Used to Be a Dry Holiday
Believe it or not, St. Patrick's Day used to be a holiday in which people partook not in alcohol, and rather spent their time in church. It wasn't until 1970 that the day was converted into a national holiday, and the stouts started pouring beer.
- We Should Switch to Blue
"St. Patrick's Day blue," they called it. St. Patrick actually wore blue, not green. The color green only became associated with St. Patrick's Day after it was linked to Irish independence in the late 18th century.
- You Should Not Drive
