Create a New Year's resolution your home can stick with

Every year it is the same old story. Everyone makes a list of new year's resolutions and within weeks (and sometimes even days) those resolutions are forgotten. Let’s change things up this year by making a list of what your home would like to change for 2014. Write down what your home would like to accomplish this year.

Here are some sample resolutions many homes are putting on their resolution list:

• Lose weight: Like humans, homes need energy to run. Some homes gobble more than they need to survive. Help your home lose weight by cleaning out and sealing the ducts. Upgrade all appliances to Energy Star ones to help conserve energy.
• Stop smoking: Improve the air quality in the home by changing filters, use a portable air cleaner and clean the ventilation systems in bathrooms and kitchen.
• Get out of debt: Do not allow your home to go further into debt by taking time to create a home improvement budget and fix things as you can.
• Drink less: Stop wasting water in your home by checking for any leaks, installing low-flow showerheads and replacing out-of-date toilets.

By helping your home complete its resolution list, you may just be able to cross a few things off of your own list too.
