For close to 100 years, the Cherry Festival has been the biggest community event in Beaumont! Virtually the entire community participates in this amazing four-day celebration, which features games, rides, booths, music, entertainment, and the best food/drink the Pass Area has to offer anyone. Come out and join us and fill your belly with all the cherries it can handle! We look forward to seeing you at this year's festival. Here are some facts about cherries that should hold you up until the fun starts tomorrow!
- The word cherry comes from the Turkish town of Cerasus.
- Cherry belongs to the rose family.
- On average, 7,000 cherries grow on your average tart cherry tree. A cherry pie consists of approximately 250 cherries. Thus, 28 pies can be made from a single tree.
- To really bring out the flavor of cherries, pair your cherries with ¼ teaspoon of pure almond extract.
- Once upon a time in Kansas, serving ice cream on cherry pie was prohibited!
- Canada holds the record for baking the largest cherry pie in the world. It weighed 39,683 pounds and was baked in Oliver, British Columbia.
