Beaumont Auto InsuranceYour engine can be destroyed if it overheats. If you noticed your car was beginning to overheat, would you know what to do? Many don't know the simple steps to take if your car begins to overheat. Take these 6 separate steps to prevent harm to your car depending on whether your situation requires method 1 handling or method 2 precautions: Method 1: If it is safe to stop your car:
  1. Pull over immediately if your temperature gauge creeps towards the €œH€ zone. Turn your car off and allow the engine to cool. Being cautious of your temperature gauge will avoid an emergency situation where serious steam is blowing from your hood.
  2. Opening the hood allows for heat to leave the vehicle more rapidly.
  3. Never open your radiator pressure cap when the engine is hot. You can get seriously burned.
  4. Next, check the coolant reservoir tank and fill if necessary.
  5. Check for any leaks in the cooling system. If you're not familiar with cars, take your car to the nearest mechanic and ask for advice.
  6. Most importantly, determine whether or not your car is drivable and call for help if necessary.
Method 2: If you MUST drive the car:
  1. Turn off the air conditioning.
  2. Turn your heat on to disperse the engine eat.
  3. Watch the temperature gauge or light closely and pull over if you have to which will avoid a damaged engine.
  4. Turn off your engine (only during certain circumstances, such as at a stopped light) and flip your key back into ignition.
  5. Refrain from accelerating and stepping on the brakes, and repeating. Instead, try to go at a steady pace.
  6. Pull over if you're stuck in traffic so that you are not vulnerable to breaking down in the middle of rush hour.
