National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month: How to Sneak More Into Your Diet
We all know we need to be eating more fruits and vegetables. Some of us love them so much we have them with every meal. Others struggle to enjoy fruits and veggies – and we’re not just talking about children. Since July is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Month, we thought we’d share a few great ways how you can sneak in fruits and vegetables without even noticing. Since these food items are packed full of goodness, you can start to eat healthier without sacrificing taste.
Sneak Veggies Into Your Diet
Whip up a soup
Blended vegetables and herbs make for a stellar soup. Try thyme and butternut squash, pea and mint, or carrot, tomato and leek for a variety of flavors. There are so many options for making a wonderfully healthy (and delicious) soup.
Smoothies are a great way to enjoy fruit and vegetables while enjoying something naturally sweet. For smoothies, you don’t have to use fresh. In fact, frozen vegetables often work better because they create an ice-cool drink to enjoy. Blend up frozen blueberries, raspberries, mango, and banana while tossing in some kale or spinach for a burst of vitamin goodness.
Make a healthy swap
Replace the ground meat in recipes like burgers, meatloaf, and meatballs with cooked, chopped mushrooms. Finely chop your choice of mushrooms using a knife of a food processor, then sauté in a little olive oil until soft. Once the mushrooms are cool, gently mix them with breadcrumbs or use them on their own. This makes for a healthy and delicious dish for all.
There are so many ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into your diet throughout July – and beyond! Because they are so good for you, consider making this part of your lifestyle.
