The 61st anniversary of Playhouse Bowl's Evenings in the Park Summer Concert Series is one that will honor the city of Banning, California. This year, 2013, is the town's centennial. The series developed in 1951 after members of some of the city's service organizations, decided that the community needed free plays and musical entertainment. The Bowl's committee was established the following year, but it wasn't incorporated for another ten years.
Believing that Repplier Park had the natural characteristics of an amphitheater, the committee chose it as the location for the Bowl's outdoor summer entertainment. The original stage and seats haven't changed a bit, but some other renovations have been done over the years.
All free concerts begin at 7:30 PM on Thursday nights in August. They are held at the Laura May Stewart Playhouse Bowl in Repplier Park at 749 N. San Gorgonia in Banning. For the 61st year of the series, the committee decided to celebrate the city's 100th birthday with this year's Centennial Concert Series. This years concerts will consist of music that reflects every generation from the 1950's to the present.
