Set up the account for your child. Alongside your son or daughter, create a social media account. This way, you know the login details and you can verify there aren’t any inappropriate private messages.
Set the privacy settings. Check the privacy settings on your child’s social media account to restrict who can see their posts and who can add them as a friend.
Monitor who they friend. Talk to your child about who is appropriate for him or her to socialize with on social media. Be sure they only befriend people who you know in person and trust.
Talk to your kids about the consequences. Many kids don’t realize the serious implications of sharing information online. Talk to your child about how pictures, comments, and social interactions stay online once posted, and let them know to be mindful of this.
