Back-to-School Driving Tips to Stay Safe

School in Session: Safe Driving Tips

The long days of summer are behind us but a new school year is here! With kids returning to kindergarten, school, and college, the roads are undoubtedly more congested and there are plenty of hazards to look out for. To help you stay safe on the roads this season, check out these safe driving tips.

  • Allow extra time to get to your destination. Rush hour may be even more congested than it was during the summer break. Remember to account for traffic on the roads so that you leave plenty of time for your journey.
  • Always wear a seat belt. Drivers and passengers need to buckle up before the car is started – whether you’re traveling in stop-and-go traffic or just driving to the end of the street.
  • Observe the speed limit at all times. There will be signs when you’re in a school zone, so stick to these limits no matter what time of day it is.
  • Avoid distracted driving. If a child chases after a ball in the road, you want to be prepared to stop.
  • Drive carefully and slowly when school is out since there may be children wanting to cross the roads or kids playing on streets.
  • Review your insurance. Make sure to replace any expired identification cards in the event the driver needs to prove they have insurance during a traffic stop. You should also have plenty of insurance to cover minor and major accidents.

We hope that these back-to-school driving tips keep you and your family safe as another school year begins. Remember that your auto insurance can help you when you need it the most. You deserve an auto insurance policy that works together to bring you the best possible coverage from an insurer with your best interest in mind.
