3 Ways to Support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Families, caregivers, charities, and research groups across the United States observe September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Across the nation, cancer is recognized as the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15. September is a month that is associated with Childhood Cancer Awareness to increase awareness, rally support, and improve America’s dismal childhood cancer survival rates. You may ask how you can help kids with cancer. There are many ways to give and lend your support – especially during this special month. Here are a couple of ways to support Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Go gold

The symbol for Childhood Cancer Awareness is the gold ribbon. Pinning a gold ribbon on your short shows your dedication to the cause and encourages others around you to do so the same. In turn, this creates a chain reaction that boosts awareness and inspires social action.

Speak up for children with cancer

The aim of boosting awareness of childhood cancer is to inspire people to take action and provide a voice for kids fighting for their lives. Start a conversation on your social media account, tweet your congressional representative or write an email to your social network. There are many ways to open dialogue – all you have to do is speak up to raise awareness.

Donate

Alex’s Lemonade Stand is a charity dedicated to raising money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily for research into new treatments and cures. They aim to get everyone involved in helping children and empowering kids with cancer. This charity was founded by Alex who was diagnosed with a brain tumor before she turned 1 year old. She passed away in 2004 at the age of 8 but managed to raise more than 1 million dollars to help find a cure for her disease.
