Stay Safe This New Year’s Eve with These Tips

Keep this advice in mind to stay safe this New Year’s Eve.

New Year’s Eve is definitely one of the most exciting holidays of the year.  However, it’s important that you remember that there are certain risks associated with this holiday.  Heed this advice to stay safe this New Year’s Eve.

Vehicle Safety

You should never get behind the wheel of a car if you’ve had something to drink.  Not only is drunk driving illegal, but it places your life and the lives of others at risk.  Additionally, it’s your responsibility to make sure that none of your friends attempt to drive while intoxicated.  Confiscate their keys if need be.  While they might be irritated with you, risking their displeasure is better than letting them risk their life and the lives of innocent bystanders.  If you are planning to drink this New Year’s Eve, call a cab, rely on a designated driver, or use a ride sharing service such as Lyft or Uber to get home safely.

Party Safety

If you are planning on attending a party or hitting a club or a bar to celebrate this New Year’s Eve, make sure you are going with a group of friends that you know and trust.  While at the party, do not give out personal information to strangers, and make sure you keep a friend by your side at all times.  Additionally, you should never accept an open drink from anyone who isn’t a licensed bartender.  Unfortunately, there are many instances of someone having their drink spiked or drugged.  If you so much as suspect that your drink has been tampered with, throw it away immediately.  It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Firework Safety

Many people like to welcome the New Year with a literal bang.  However, you should leave the fireworks to the professionals.  Not only is shooting off fireworks illegal in many states, but improper handling could lead to fire, burns, and other serious injuries.  This New Year’s, it’s much safer to simply attend a fireworks display than it is to put one on by yourself.
